Well the general idea is that Clive Owen (who IMHO should replace Brosnan as Bond) takes on different jobs as a driver and shows off the capabilities of several shiny new BMW's while fighting the good fight in each episode. I've seen these films (they're available for download at the site) several times and have always been impressed by the quality of each short.
BMW's done a smart thing and have put all the films together on a DVD which I just ordered. I WANT to see these films on my Sony Vega! The only thing I was charged was $7.75 for shipping and handling. A Great Deal for great films!
A lot better than the so-called "action" movies being put out these days...
I remember looking forward to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and being disappointed when I finally saw it. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery had played on video every sunday morning at our apartment (when the wife wasn't the wife, just the live-in girlfriend that fed me...) and stayed fresh a LONG time...The second movie felt forced and didn't have the same heart as the first one. It seemed to be a collection of one-off gags that never seemed to gel.
I guess that I side with the majority in that I was underwhelmed by this movie. It wasn't just Jar-Jar Binks. He was just a symptom of the problem. The movie was cold and digital, whereas Star Wars was all action, adventure and really wild things. It was bright and inviting...
I left the theatre feeling disappointed. As I did three years later after viewing Attack of the Clones...
I started to doubt that ANY movie could live up to my expectations...

You are a Dragon! You love to eat lambs, cattle, and most of all you have a taste for Humans. You don't like any color in particular, and you are very solitary, choosing to live inside mountains and atop cliffs. You love to fly, and to breathe flame. Spells are another talent of yours. Dragons are immortal and cannot die unless they are slain. You are quite the magician, since spells simply bounce off your protective armor. You also hate anything you cant eat.
It's really weird when you watch a movie you've seen before and then notice that one of your favourite actors had a role in it before he was famous...And that you forgot he was in it!
Because my wife had never seen it before I rented True Romance, Quentin Tarantino's first script and a good little "caper" movie. Before we knew each other, my wife's friends would bug her about never seeing this movie, considering almost all of her favourite leading men are in it: Kilmer, Oldman, Walken. I remember seeing this movie about 10 years ago when it came out and I always remember the visceral shock of the scene where Patricia Arquette is beaten to within an inch of her life by mafia-hood Virgil before she fights back.
This time, to my shock and amazement I notice who is playing Virgil: It's freaking James Gandolfini!, better known as Tony freakin' Soprano!
So now the scene is totally different as I'm watching psycho-Tony Soprano getting down to violent business with pretty young thing Arquette. Now instead of some anonymous goombah, the mob-guy is an actual character for me and the scene is that much nastier and feels riskier, even though I know the result.
Talk about a head-smack!
I'm wondering if there are any other examples that could deliver such a shock?
You are a very effective teacher, and you are very committed to those who learn from you. You put your all into everything you do, to some extent because you fear failure more than anything else. You are always seeking self-improvement, even in areas where there is nothing you can do to improve.
ABC'S AIRING OF OSCARS PLUNGES TO 25.4 RATING/37 SHARE, ACCORDING TO OVERNIGHTS, DOWN FROM LAST YEAR'S RECORD-LOW SCORE OF 29.1/47. UNBELIEVABLY, LAST MONTH'S 'JOE MILLIONAIRE' REACHED HIGHER SHARES IN SOME MARKETS, DEMOS THAN OSCARS. FINAL RATINGS AVAILABLE LATER. CONTROVERSIAL AIRING OF SHOW AT HEIGHT OF WAR EXPERIENCED NIELSEN STRESS ON NEARLY EVERY LEVEL. 'IT WAS A DIFFICULT SITUATION... WE ARE GLAD IT IS BEHIND US,' SAID TOP NETWORK SOURCE... MORE...
I'm finding it hard to care. The Oscars are always about celebrities celebrating their own bloated self-importance. Haven't we been subjected to them enough these last few months in the run up to the war?
I mean the only remotely interesting thing about last night's Oscars was Michael Moore:
not because I agree with him, but because he delivered on what I expected him to do- use the ultimate PR opportunity to push and shove and slander and rant, which was a 30 second version of all of his movies and TV shows. Entertaining stuff as opposed to the rest of the drivel last night.
I like it when people are true to themselves, even opportunists such as Moore, who will probably NEVER win an Oscar ever again. It's in his nature: I would've been disappointed if he hadn't used the audience to denounce President Bush. I'm surprised they didn't cut his microphone and go to commercial.
What I found troubling was the "love-in" that the actors and film-makers were having with child-raping scum Roman Polanski.
It seems that many believe that art trumps criminal behaviour, because many in attendance believed that it was a real shame that Polanski couldn't attend to collect his reward. Again it seems that because someone creates great cinematic art (subjective: I haven't seen The Pianist so I don't know if it's "art") we should ignore the fact that he's a child-raping piece of crap that should still do jail time.
When I first heard he was guilty of statutory rape I thought there might have been more to the story, like he got caught by the age limit like Renton in Trainspotting but no; he was (and probably still is) a predator that hunted a poor naive girl. For a full reminder of what this bastard did click here.
The real shame is those trained seals that call themselves "artists" couldn't take a stand and boo this loser. I guess being "anti-child-raping scum" isn't as popular in Hollywood as being "anti-war."
