Ice Cream Time

Angelina.jpgIn support of the Flea I have decided that there needs to be more ice cream on this blog. I therefore present to you Miss Angelina Jolie, one of my favourites, as well as my wife's, although I don't think we like her in the same way...Or do we?

Most recently seen on the screen as Alexander the Great's Mother (!?!), Angelina strikes me as the kind of girl that can drink you under the table while simultaneously breaking your heart into little itty-bitty pieces. All the while proving how much smarter she is than you...

To the humourless blogger who suggested that Flea stop posting pictures of beautiful women on his blog - well, any defiant four letter word you want to pick will do. To suggest content is one thing; to engage in personal attacks is another.

To also equate the appreciation of beautiful women with pornography says more about you than it does about him.

UPDATE 12:47AM - Well obviously I'm not going to draw any anti-sexist ire by being oh so respectful of my subject matter...

  1. "Angelina strikes me as the kind of girl that can drink you under the table while simultaneously breaking your heart into little itty-bitty pieces. All the while proving how much smarter she is than you..."

That's pretty funny...and thank you for not sexually objectifying her (well, except maybe the ice cream comment, but, as I take it, all blogs are free ice cream). This is a very pretty picture of Angelina Jolie. I hope you don't get a lot of comments about, well, you know, because they would take away from your obvious, and likely warranted, appreciation of this very talented and beautiful woman's wit, power, and intelligence.

  2. tz: Your personal attack on the Flea does nothing to promote women's wit, power and intelligence.

  3. tz: You're complimentary of this post here, yet I've done absolutely nothing different than Flea in his postings. I never read anything lewd or base in any of the commentary he makes about his subject matter. Commenters are a different thing, although most on his blog (me included, mostly) fall within the bounds of good taste much more frequently than other blogs I know.

How exactly have I transcended the "girlie blog post" and achieved artistic appreciation here? I'm still confused as to why you're pissed at the Flea...and how it's not personal at this point.

  4. Well, you didn't censor comments that might not agree with you (although I didn't post one that didn't agree with you). However, because you're annoyed by what I wrote, you could have just deleted my comment. Also, I didn't see any degrading language in your post or your comments. You don't have to delete comments that are degrading, but you also don't have to encourage them. Plus, I don't see any discrepancies between your walk and your talk. Of course, we can't all be perfect in that regard, and I don't read your blog enough to have an opinion about it. Nevertheless, this should give you some insight into what I'm saying.

  5. Annoyed? Maybe. However, I'm going to demand a little bit of intellectual consistency here. This post is in the exact style and nature of the Flea's many posts on this subject matter, yet you call him a sexist, but somehow I'm not.

Please explain (hint: how is what the Flea does sexist, 'cause I've not seen it that way? I see him as respectful of who he posts, unless there's a political aspect, at which point he's blatantly clear about his opinion.)

Is it the comment censoring that's got your hackles up? If it is, then say so and that's a basis for discussion.

  6. Well, his censoring is what started the entire discussion, if you remember. However, rather than responding to me, he reacted in quite the opposite manner, I think. You do agree, however, that both the Flea and I are entitled to our own opinions, right, or is just the Flea entitled to that? By the way, did I use the "S" word? I'll have to go back and check. I do remember writing about sexual objectification, censorship (which is his right, as it's his blog), and not walking-your-talk.

  7. Funny, I thought some folks had their hearts set on censoring my content. The idea I have to pay for such people to tell me how boring my incendiary writing is strikes me as all too typically Canadian.

    Indeed.

  9. TZ honey, let me lay it down for you:

    1. People can do whatever they want on their own blogs. You are certainly free to disagree with what they do, however, whatever point you were trying to make has been completely lost in your personal attack and furthermore, you have beaten this thing into the bloody ground. Nobody cares. Move on, already.

    2. Posting someone's personal information on your site was lowlife and the only thing it accomplished was dissolving what small shred of credibility you may have actually held before you started all this nonesense.

    3. I am not a man and I'm sure as hell not from Illinois, so perhaps you are the one who needs to educate yourself about IP addresses.

    4. [edited by The Management profanity okay, flaming not]

    5. Get a life.

  10. TZ, in the interests of keeping things simple, all human beings that walk the earth are hypocrites in one way or another. If we all lived consonant with our stated values and beliefs, the world would be much less fraught with complication, and there would be greatly reduced demand for people with your expertise.

Humanity is freighted with hypocrisy and has been so throughout recorded history. Since we all (at some point, and in varying degrees) lack unyielding consistency of thought, word and deed, how do you determine between an acceptable level of hypocrisy and an unacceptable one? And more importantly, who gave you this Messianic calling?

  11. I don't agree with Theresa on this issue, but there's absolutely no call for profane insults.

Posted by Damian  on  11/24  at  01:09 PM

  12. I also think the insults are out of order. It is obvious that we do not all agree about what constitutes objectification vs. celebration. I would hope we could all agree that vulgarity and threatening language are out of bounds.

  13. Personally, Uma Thurman is my favorite in the drink-you-under-the-table, break your heart, prove that she is smarter than you type.

I know this is way off the main thrust of the debate, but I just had to mention Uma. And yes my wife knows about Uma.
