I would be remiss if I didn't point out the excellent roundup of Red Ensign Brigade postings offered up over at
Tipperography. Good thing no one on the Brigade is shy about sharing their opinions...
It's amazing how the last few hosts have changed the formats around to freshen things up a bit...
Where's that CPC membership card...

On Sunday mornings I usually watch
Question Period, a political show that's meant to do a little recap of the weeks goings-ons in Ottawa and abroad. It's usually a show that pisses me off, because it usually has some government hack on to explain why the current gang of thieves that steal nearly half our paycheck should be allowed to continue because, well, someone has to spend our money better than we do.
But I have to watch it.
Of course now there's a new reason.
This week, while watching the typical grandstanding I happened to notice the hottie behind the opposition critic that no one's paying attention to (not even the cameraman I would think.)
Who
is she?
Is this the new face of Conservatism? If so where the hell is my party card? I'll have to see if I can save it from the shredder...
She's definitely got that
Bailey Quarters thing going on with the glasses.
Conservative Party of Canada readers: who is this woman? And why hasn't she been given a front-row seat yet?

U.S. army deserter loses bid for refugee status
Good.
The board added that Hinzman's reasons for refusing to fight in Iraq were "inherently contradictory" because he was willing to serve but only in a non-combat role.
"Surely an intelligent young man like Mr. Hinzman, who believed the war in Iraq to be illegal, unjust and waged for economic reasons, would be unwilling to participate in any capacity, whether combatant or non-combatant," the board said in its decision.
"The Federal Court ... clearly sets out that one cannot be a selective conscientious objector."
The right decision, intelligently rendered. I am strangely heartened by this. Now if only Hinzman hadn't wasted the Immigration and Refugee Board's time and effort so that they could get back to helping real refugees.

The Cardinal You scored 63% Cardinal, 25% Monk, 23% Lady, and 40% Knight! |
You are the real power behind the throne. No one dares dispute or refuse you. Which is good because that's how you get things done. You are also, however, completely corrupt and highly immoral. This doesn't bother you in the least as you lounge around your rich comfortable surroundings, reveling in wealth and authority. |
|
My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
|
You scored higher than 96% on Cardinal |
|
You scored higher than 5% on Monk |
|
You scored higher than 2% on Lady |
|
You scored higher than 30% on Knight |

I've been trying to figure out the causes of my lethargy lately (spiritual, emotional, financial, etc.) which has led me to quite a bit of self-analysis.
And I've come to the conclusion that I'm going through caffeine withdrawal.
No spiritual crises are apparent- got the big spiritual thumbs-up from the paternal creator type guy/gal last time I checked with him to see if it's OK if I got creative with my paperwork to the government regarding their ripping off of me and mine (ie. taxes)...no guilt there and a hearty pat on the back to "go for broke" so spiritually I checked out OK. Guess the big guy didn't like the budget either.
Nope nope nope, it comes down to one change that I made - I switched to what I thought was higher-test stuff: 'spresso's and 'mericano's (although the stupid, we're so-hip coffee place here in downtown Penticton is calling them "Canadiano's" - Loooooooosers!) and what I thought was unreliable folk-wisdom turns out to be true: the doohickey that forces all the steam through the beans does in fact produce a brew with less caffeine than the corporate swill that the company provides in unlimited quantities in the lunchroom, even though it tastes stronger/better.
So now, even though I'm drinking equivalent volume, I'm getting drowsy from the lack of the power-me-up portion of the crappy brown liquid that I can no longer drink due to it tasting like the mud coming off my tires in winter in comparison. I'm either going to have to go through the DT's so that I can operate without constant caffeine stimulation (which explains why people had such trouble following my 80 words/minute speech patterns and why I'd wake up at 3am with my heart doing 95 beats per minute) or I'm going to have to start taking caffeine pills...
I guess free coffee is worth basically what you pay for it...
I can speak English. I learned it from a boooook!*

English Genius You scored 100% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 77% Expert! |
You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!
For answers to the Beginner section only (the first ten questions), visit my blog: http://shortredhead78.blogspot.com/. I will post the answers to the other questions as soon as possible. |

I don't know how to interpret the stats comparing me to others of my age and gender. They don't seem very impressive to me, and yet the overall score is GEN - I - US! Something don't smell right.
Rue's results are even weirder, as they attempt to flunk her early on, but supposedly she's better than 99% of her age and gender in all areas..
It was fun, but I put more stock in my university transcript when it comes to measuring my english competency.

Girl, 5, thrown onto Toronto highway unconscious, on ventilator in hospital
Warning: Some damned explicit language coming down the pipe here...
TORONTO (CP) - The little girl who was thrown by her suicidal father onto the country's busiest highway was unconscious and needed help breathing Tuesday, painting a much grimmer picture than earlier reports that indicated she was talkative and alert after her three-storey plunge.
This man may have been this little girl's biological sperm-donor but there's no fucking way he can lay claim to the title
father. I'm coming real close to saying that it's a good thing that this son-of-a-bitch is dead. If I were on the roadway and saw him do this to a defenseless child...
I hoping that there's a special place in hell for this bastard.
"But he was going through a rough time" some of you want to say. "Have you no sympathy?"
For attempted murderers? No. When I hear the term "murder-suicide" I usually think that it would be best if the losers who contemplate this sort of action skip the first step and just eat a bullet. It would save society a lot of grief and would allow us to have sympathy for the "poor bastard."
Shamsha Amarsi's estranged husband, Alnoor Amarsi, 48, who had custody of his daughter on Sundays, dangled the girl from a bridge above roaring traffic as police pleaded with him to spare her.
Great. Another shining example for the courts to consider when men who actually are good fathers try to get visitation with their children. Thanks a lot, asshole. I'll say it now - Glad you're dead fucktard, couldn't you have skipped the part about harming your own daughter?
The couple was going through a difficult divorce and the man had been refused more time with his daughter. His suicide notes said he hated his estranged wife and that he intended to kill the girl.
Right, because nothing says "fit parent" better than death threats and killing those that you are responsible for. I hope for the police officers involved that there wasn't a moment when a sniper could've taken a head-shot and ended this thing without harm to the little girl. The guilt that that moment could carry would haunt me for the rest of my life if I were in their shoes.
I love the implication: difficult divorce = irrational behaviour = potential explanation of murder/suicide... What the fuck? Oh, it's the court's fault. If only he had been granted more time with his daughter
he wouldn't have tried to kill her!!
Poor little girl.
If she survives this, she'll have to live with the knowledge that it was her own father that tried to end her life. The only consolation will be that this asshole won't be in her life to fuck it up.

In an attempt to actually get people to
watch the
CBC again, Canada's Liberal Party broadcaster is actually going to show a program I want to see: the new remade
Doctor Who starring
Christopher Eccleston who I remember best from the films
Shallow Grave and
28 Days Later.
From what I understand of the new series, there won't be any Daleks...
