So, as I posted earlier, I have applied for a new job, same company, smaller town.
When I was 10, my parents and I moved to Kelowna, BC a small city in central British Columbia, so I've lived in a small town before. At the time I hated the fact that there was only one FM rock station that played the same BORING songs (thank you CRTC and your stupid Canadian content rules- how much Bryan Adams can I hear before I want to eat a shotgun?) there were few concerts and the TV stations were utter crap compared to what was in the city. Plus with only a handful of movie theatres the odds of me seeing any movie before friends in Vancouver seeing them was miniscule at best...And when I finally was old enough to get into the bars with only a slight chance of getting carded, I realized how much the bars in Kelowna sucked in comparison to the bars in Vancouver.
So, fast forward to today and my concerns about moving to a small town are much the same:
-what will I watch on TV? Well, thanks to the miracle of digital cable and satellite, exactly what I watch now.
-what about radio? Well if cable isn't good enough, I'll get satellite radio.
-what about concerts and bands? Parenthood has cured me of this.
-what about movies? Again, parenthood has cured me of this. Well that and a really big fucking television set with DVD player has cured me of this. Nothing like being able to drink lots of hard alcohol while watching Lord of the Rings with the stereo blasting...GO SAURON! And no stupid losers with cellphones to deal with either...
So through the miracles of modern technology, moving to a small town will be less traumatic than it was when I was 10.
As for the bars, I'll leave that for my kids to worry about, but only after they turn 19, because as we all know, children never go to bars under the age of 19, right? er, right?
Now all I have to do is get the job...

And by moving to the Soo, you will only be visited by people who actually want to visit you, and not those who are coming to Toronto for business and figure they can scam a couple of free meals off of you.
Then again the Soo might be small enough that Pestilence descends upon it, and finds a bar to make a home in.
