Forget the romance of the films. This is the sad legacy of that act of mutiny more than two centuries ago. How many tahitian women do you think went along with the original mutineers willingly?
Raging Kraut
When I read this I'm horrified, but then I think about the child-sex-orgy cases in Canada and the US inthe late 80-90s, which turned out to have been a pile of BS and which ruined the lives of the accused and wrongly convicted.

My understanding was that the man depicted in the movies was pretty far removed from reality. The Royal Naval Museum has an extensive biography of William Bligh here. Overall it seems very positive, and there's no questioning that he was one of the foremost navigators and botanists of his time. Unfortunately we will likely never know who the true villain is, but like all personality conflicts, I'm willing to bet there was plenty of fault on both sides. My heart is inclined to side with Bligh and the loyal sailors, though, since they didn't take advantage of Third World women who had no knowledge of egalitarian Enlightenment philosophy.

So I'll reserve judgement, for now.
