I think I'm gonna give my notice tomorrow. I've had enough of the adrenaline pumping through my body, waiting for them to decide if I can or can't take leave.
Truth be told: if we weren't planning on moving I would've been searching for a better job from week one...This place just isn't me.
It doesn't matter anyway. Parental benefits are the only EI benefits that you don't lose by quitting, so I'd rather take my own destiny in my hands and quit.
I've never been fired before in my life. I don't like the idea of starting now.
Raging Kraut
I am really confused now. I usually am, but this is confusing me more. If you are taking parental leave, then don't they have to allow you to take it? Why quit? Can't you start the leave at once? If you had actually given birth you would have taken the leave at the time of birth at least so what is the 9 days for? I'm just confused
There are two governments that are involved here: the Feds, who cover the employment benefits, and the Province, who through the Ministry of Labour govern the company's responsibilities to its employees.
By the Feds rules (the only ones I care about) I qualify and they'll pay me. I've got 600 hours employment in the last 52 weeks. By quitting however, I only qualify for parental leave, not regular unemployment benefits should I NOT be able to find a job after the parental leave benefits run out ('round about Punkin's first birthday.)
By the Province's rules, I haven't worked my thirteen weeks under Ontario regs for this new company (I switched companies on Labour Day), so they don't really want to grant me leave, because then they're stuck paying my benefits for the duration. If I take leave and don't show up for work when they haven't granted me leave, they can fire me for cause under Ontario law...but it doesn't look good firing someone for wanting to take care of his children (PR not very good, is it?)
Me and my family are moving so I really don't care what the company does. Quit or fired I still get my benefits... However I've NEVER been fired from a job. My resume requires no "explanations" or "omissions" so far...and I'd rather be the one that cuts the cord.
Maybe tomorrow as flu kept me away from the job today...
