Congratulations to all my friends in Vancouver on their being awarded the 2010 Winter Olympics.

  1. Congrats to Vancouver! I've never been there (actually, I've never been out of the US rasberry), but I've seen pics of it, and it's a beautiful city.

I remember when Atlanta got and had the '96 summer games. We all looked at it as being a good thing at first, but later on, I think everyone started changing their minds a bit. In order to get ready for the rest of the world, they changed a lot. And to me, it felt like they took away from the city. From little things like the computerized voice on the trains at the airport (it originally sounded like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica rasberry), to the city turning the place where Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run, and where the Braves went from worst to first into a parking lot; it never felt like the same place to me afterward. But that wasn't the worst. Nope, the day that they introduced us all to Izzy, our dear ol' olympic mascot, was the day a lot of us regretted ever getting the games. You'd think with the history the south has, they could have found something better than a thing that looked like a giant blue sperm with olympic rings crammed around his ass. Argh!

They spent all that money to "beautify" the city, yet ended up embarassing it completely with a sperm for a mascot. Go figure. smile

P.S.: BTW, Happy Canada day! rasberry

  2. Start saving your pennies now. Only $200/year until the Games start and you might be able to afford a ticket to the Gold Medal Hockey game (if you can get a ticket). They have contemplated holding it at BC Place so 55,000 can watch it, and so the average Canucks fan (or 1/3 owner of a half-season ticket) can have a reasonable shot at attending the game.

  3. *drools*...Ooooh....Gold medal Hockey game.... smile

Definitely need to put that on my to-do list for 2010: "Find really big TV with satellite, glue eyes to screen and watch hockey." rasberry
