On Sunday mornings I usually watch Question Period, a political show that's meant to do a little recap of the weeks goings-ons in Ottawa and abroad. It's usually a show that pisses me off, because it usually has some government hack on to explain why the current gang of thieves that steal nearly half our paycheck should be allowed to continue because, well, someone has to spend our money better than we do.
But I have to watch it.
Of course now there's a new reason.
This week, while watching the typical grandstanding I happened to notice the hottie behind the opposition critic that no one's paying attention to (not even the cameraman I would think.)
Who is she?
Is this the new face of Conservatism? If so where the hell is my party card? I'll have to see if I can save it from the shredder...
She's definitely got that Bailey Quarters thing going on with the glasses.
Conservative Party of Canada readers: who is this woman? And why hasn't she been given a front-row seat yet?
Raging Kraut
The woman you are referring to is Helena Guergis, the Conservative MP for Simcoe Grey, Ontario.
Newly elected in the last election, she is the Tories' critic on Seniors and sits on 2 committees: Citizenship and Status of Women.
As a follow-up, she also has her own website (http://www.helenaguergis.com/), where she maintains a weekly blog. Somewhat dull reading, stuff you see in press releases, but that's pretty much typical. No information about spouse or children.
Rue knows all, so if I tried to surreptiously watch attractive women without commenting she'd be on to me in a flash, and my punishment would be worse, so much worse...
Sorry - got distracted there...
I'd rather take my beatings up front and in the open, thank you very much!
Besides, knowing Rue, she probably agrees on Ms. Guergis and just hasn't told me yet...
... well, I was just explaining to Ray how to identify a female Conservative MP based on one picture.
First of all, we have an excellent enlargement to work with, as evidenced above. We then need to think of a resource which has photographs of current MPs.
Fortunately, there is one: the House of Commons website (http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/SenatorsMembers_house.asp?Language=E&Parl=38&Ses=1&Sect=hoccur) lists members in various ways, including party affiliation.
Furthermore, the profile available for each member includes a photograph. So it now becomes a matter of scanning the profiles of each Conservative MP with a female name. Thus, it was possible to identify Helen Guergis as the woman in the telecast in the background; and by Googling(TM) the name, we also identified her website.
As for Ray's question of why she isn't in the front seat, there are of course two reasons: 1) she's a newbie MP, and 2) based on her weekly weblog entries, she's not exactly a rhetorical firecracker.
nice to see the young, errr, faces on the Conservative side of the commons. i rather hope the Cons make a point of their relative youth with respect to the old hacks on the other side. not that i have antyhing against the over 40s crowd (to which i belong) but most of us are brainwashed trudeaupians.

Always glad to be of service.
Glad to see the thoroughness with which you have checked this out, Victor

Any evasion, avoidance, justification, exaggeration, obfuscation, outright LIE - it just won't work.
Shhh...She's coming!

Why do you ask?
Amazing what one can find on the Net, right?
